Cyprus to raise planned Turkish natural gas pipeline to the north with the EU
Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos plans to raise the planned, roughly 97 km undersea gas pipeline from Alanya to Kyrenia at the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg on 12 October; its cost is estimated at about €601 million, with operation projected for 2028.
Cyprus: overhead power lines remain a fire risk – undergrounding where feasible
According to the forestry department, short circuits in power cables caused about 7% of forest fires in 2015–2024, and at least five incidents in 2026 have been linked to the EAC network; the EAC is replacing overhead lines with underground cables where feasible, and all new urban extensions use underground cables.
According to the Turkish Cypriot side the project is approaching its investment phase, but it is legally disputed; for pipeline construction and pipe suppliers the situation remains politically open.
The ongoing shift to underground cables and the replacement of worn lines point to continued demand for medium- and low-voltage cable and installation work in Cyprus; the source gives no costs or timeline.
