Why 2026 is different

The rules changed. Most quotes did not.

Until the end of 2025, surplus solar power was credited against your bill. Since 1 January 2026 Cyprus runs a market-based self-consumption regime — surplus is no longer credited at a guaranteed rate. That single change decides whether a system pays for itself or not.

Self-consumption is the whole business now
Every kilowatt-hour you use yourself is worth the full retail price. Every one you export is worth whatever a supplier or aggregator will pay for it — and that is no longer fixed. A system sized for export is a system sized wrong.

Which makes a battery the core, not an extra
Storage moves your midday production into the evening, when a house in Cyprus actually draws power. Without it, a large roof produces a lot and saves comparatively little.

Your pool and air-conditioning are now an advantage
Pool pumps, air-conditioning and an electric car run during daylight hours. In the old scheme that hardly mattered. In the new one it is exactly what makes a system work.

Twenty million euro, opening in September

The Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry has announced the third round of the national home energy upgrade scheme. We publish only what has officially been confirmed — and say plainly what has not.

First grid connection before 1 January 2008, or a building permit applied for before 21 December 2007. Private individuals only, one application per person, no commercial use of the dwelling.

At least 60 % energy saved
Measured as the difference between the energy performance certificate before and after the work. Solar alone almost never gets there — it takes a combination, and a certified expert has to issue that first certificate, dated after 15 May 2026.

The amounts and the deadline
Grant amounts per measure, the exact opening date and the closing date all come with the implementation guide when the call is published. Anyone quoting you a figure today is guessing. We will update this page the day it is official.

Eligible measures named by the ministry: insulation, window replacement, shading, solar water heating, air-conditioning units, high-efficiency heat pumps, photovoltaic systems operating under net billing, battery storage, and the expert's fee. The strongest case on the island. Pool pump and air-conditioning draw power exactly when the roof produces it, and the roof area is usually there.
Holiday homes and overseas owners
A house that stands empty for months has a different consumption pattern, and a different answer. We say so instead of selling you the villa calculation.
Restaurants, shops and offices
Daytime businesses use nearly everything they generate. That is the best possible starting point under the 2026 rules — often even without storage.

Straight answers

The questions people actually ask

Is the Energy Check really free?
Yes, and there is nothing to sign. You get a range and can walk away. We are paid by the installation partner when a project actually goes ahead — never by you.
How accurate are these numbers?
The solar yield comes from the European Commission's own PVGIS data for your part of Cyprus, so that part is solid. The savings depend on how much you use during the day, which we can only estimate until we see your bill. That is why we show ranges and name our assumptions.
Do I need a battery?
Under the 2026 rules, usually yes — because exported power is no longer credited at a fixed rate, so what counts is using your own production. A daytime business is the exception. The Check shows you both cases.
Can you get me the grant?
No. Only the ministry decides that, and the application needs a certified expert's energy performance certificate. What we can do is tell you early whether your property is even in scope, and connect you to an expert in time for the September round.
Which partner will I get?
A registered Cyprus company that covers your area and the kind of system you need. We are building this network right now and are honest about it: we would rather tell you we have nobody suitable yet than send you to whoever is available.
What happens to my data?
